SDP Client Spotlight: Vazquez Security Services

Vazquez Security Services

We’ve all heard the adage, “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” However, with only 3 out of 10 employees reporting they are satisfied with their jobs, it’s becoming harder and harder to find stores of individuals who genuinely love their work—much less, who have had a life-long career they love!

This month, we’re excited to bring you the story of a man who has spent the past 47 years doing what he loves. Read on for our December Client Spotlight with Vazquez Security Services to learn more about Joe Vazquez and how he has built a business that allows him to follow his dreams.

Vazquez Security Services

While technically the story of Vazquez Security Services goes all the way back to Joe’s first security job in 1973 (at the age of 16, no less!), the business itself was born in 2006.

After over thirty years in the security industry, a large corporation approached Joe to inquire if he would provide security for them. At the time, Joe and his wife Linda owned an investigative services company focused on protection and investigations rather than security. However, the big box company was so impressed by their work that they reached out with an offer.

After mulling it over, Joe and Linda decided to open a new business in 2006 to assist with that security program. (You guessed it, Vazquez Security Services!) By the time the program ended in 2012, Vazquez Security Services had seen tremendous growth, serving numerous clients with their 325 employees.

A Cut Above The Rest

Fourteen years later, Vazquez Security Services delivers that same high level of service. The organization provides armed and unarmed security, special services, hazardous waste security, general security, as well as executive protection.

Most of their business comes from word of mouth referrals or from bystanders who see their security personnel on the job at other locations. But what really sets Vazquez Security Services apart is the organization’s commitment to personally reviewing each new client they take on.

From his time in the Marine Corps, Joe learned to never ask his Marines to do something he wouldn’t do first. And Joe has infused that ethos into the very fiber of how he runs his business today.

For each new contract, Joe personally goes on-site and works the job himself. That way he can make sure it is a good fit for his team. After evaluating the contract, he hand-picks the best personnel for that location. As a result, their client satisfaction level is unparalleled, and Joe can rest easy knowing he is never putting his team in a situation that he himself would not be comfortable with.

Not Too Big, Not Too Small

While 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us, there have been some silver linings. As many businesses have struggled to adapt their goals to today’s volatile business environment, one of Joe’s primary goals at the start of 2020 was actually to downsize. He shares,

With 325 employees, I was always traveling and dealing with issues. Now we’re able to just settle in and enjoy everything we’ve worked so hard for.

And Joe raises an important point in the eternal question of balancing “living to work” and “working to live”. When asked what some of the highlights of running his own business have been, Joe explains,

I love the fact that I get to choose who I work with. [With downsizing,] we’re able to better enjoy the employees that we do have, work is comfortable, payroll is easy, and we’re enjoying life more.

Why SDP?

A client of SDP’s since 2014, Joe first encountered Southland Data Processing through an Executive Group. Another member, one of SDP’s Sales Directors, approached Joe, urging him, “Just try us, I think you’re going to like us!” – and the rest is history!

Joe’s favorite thing about working with SDP is the confidence he has that he can call in and get the help he needs on the spot.

He recounts how recently his insurance company wanted a crazy report from him. He called in and a rep walked him through how to build the custom report with everything he needed. After that, he was able to get the insurance company everything they needed! Joe shares,

I was so impressed with how SDP helped us. You guys really are the experts. There has never been a time that I’ve called and not gotten the results I needed.

For anyone considering working with Southland Data Processing, all Joe has to say is,

Absolutely try them! It’s a no brainer. We had many choices and still get phone calls all the time. But we’re so happy with the service that we would never leave. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
